"The Maiden of Hotoke: Stupas, Temples and Girls in Myanmar"

(Information from exhibitors)
Prayer = Focusing on the reality of the present moment. During the Vipassana meditation experience, where the Buddha is said to have attained enlightenment, the author saw a vision of "a girl praying against the backdrop of sunlit ruins," and as a photographer, he traveled to Myanmar, a sacred place of Theravada Buddhism that protects the Buddha's teachings, to capture this scene.
The pagoda ("paya" in Burmese) means "precious person = Buddha". For the people of Myanmar, where 90% of the people are Buddhists, the pagoda = Buddha is a special existence, and it is crowded with many people from morning to night as a place where people who are not ordained (lay believers) can interact with the Buddha. For girls, it has become a third place after home and school. This is a unique work that captures various Buddhist buildings in various parts of Myanmar and the praying appearance of girls who happen to be there.
After filming, a coup d'état by the military broke out in Myanmar. The filming location was engulfed in flames, even young children were killed, and it was a throwback to the era of the military junta. Myanmar has a lot of beautiful and fascinating worldviews, but it is extremely sad that they are stained with blood. I sincerely hope that this work will raise the issue of conflict and give you an opportunity to think about something.
